The October leg was rained off - the first time this has happened - as gales and structural damage were forecast. Too much even for us! We were back in November with a double leg starting at Breach Hill, passing through Wells and ending at North Wootton.
The day started in a thunder storm! Scouts outside the Cheddar Youth Hostel.
Looking happier outside Wells Cathedral. The sun even came out on this, the second day.
Monument just past the Bishop's Palace. Wells Cathedral from the Bishop's Palace.
Our first leg after the break took us from Abbots Leigh to near Chew Valley Lake. In typical style here we are reassembling after lunch at Dundry.
The May day weekend was our last outing before the summer break. Starting at Doynton we walked to Conham River park and stayed at the Bristol Youth Hostel overnight. The next day ending just above Clifton suspension bridge.
View to Bitten and Bristol beyond. Rest in Bitten church.
End of day one - Conham River park. Bristol docks with youth hostel behind.
A little light entertainment. Approaching the Floating Harbour area. Grimmest spot on the Monarch's Way?
Bristol harbour. The end in sight - Clifton Suspension bridge.
On Aprils's leg we reached the M4 having had a few April showers.
The March weather was not much better the February. We ended up very wet and muddy. The Somerset monument at the end was a welcome sight.
The Royal Oak at Leigherton inspired us on our way.
We reach the source of the Thames. Canal near Sapperton tunnel
The worst Monarch's Way weather to date was saved for the leg nearest to home in February 2002. Driving hail and strong winds meant that not all completed the final part to Tetbury. None of us would have survived without the special "soup kitchen" at Rodmartin. A brief respite from the wind and hail
And the brave few trudged on to Tetbury.
Lunch stop near Chedworth village. Cirencester reached - a major landmark!

The Xmas leg was done separately by the Goodyers. Just to prove we did it here are Rob and Mike with a feastive tree at Farminton.
In the sun outside Blockley Church. Glorious view across Blockley
Gearing up for the second leg in Stow Youth Hostel.
Roman well just outside Stow. ? Scout misbehaving in Stow
Assembling at Chipping Campden in October Hidcote Manor gardens was our lunch stop - in the rain.
The first stage since February started at Langley and lunchtime found us at Stratford Upon Avon. Here we are mingling with the tourists and sampling icecreams from a barge.
The February leg started at Alcester. The group outside the church before the rain starts.
The canal tough at Wootton Wawen - very strange to walk alongside it with your head at water level.
January saw us walking from Headless Cross to Alcester, the ground was frozen but the weather was clear. Picture shows some of the boys stopped at a frozen pond.
Great views on a sunny winters day south of Halesowen.
Sunset over Content Farm
Over the new year weekend we stayed overnight at Blackwell scout centre near Bromsgrove. We had not expected temperatures of -10C that night but from the pictures you can see that we all enjoyed ourselves. (Best not to ask about the toilets!) The early breakfast was well appreciated particularly when the scouts washed up.

The November section took us through the Netherton Tunnel opended in 1858 and the last canal tunnel to be built in Britain. It is 1.5 miles long, dead straight and pitch dark. Amazingly thick stalactites has already developed.

Outside the tunnel, if you look closely you can see the headtorches !
Group photograph crossing the M6.
Last visit to Boscobel House marked by afternoon tea.
Beckbury church in the spring sunshine
Dangerous chidren strike again
The group stop for a well earned afternoon tea
The team assembled outside Ironbridge Youth Hostel Tony picking the right route
