![]() ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH MEMBERS OF THE SWISS ALPINE CLUB |
Hi, I'm glad that you have called in to this page. I've been a member of the club for over 25 years now and been going to the Alps for a little longer. This year I was elected President for a three year term, which is very exciting. | ![]() |

On this page I intend to put photos of club meets, the meets list and personal meet reports of the club. This is a personal page and not an official page. Now that summer is over we can look back on climbs in the Alps or wherever and prepare for the Winter climbing programme. So now we are into the short days, but hopefully we will get some clear winter days for the meets this winter. John Foster has put together a good and varied selection of Meets for the winter and spring. The Annual Dinner is once again at Patterdale in February, preceded by the AGM. This will be my first Dinner as President and hope that you will come and support the event. Brooke has included the details for the weekend in the Winter Newsletter, along with an Hotel booking form. Book early to avoid disappointment. The Alpine Meet next year will be based in the village of Madonna di Campiglio in the Italian Dolomites. Alasdair has organised the Meet and details appear in the Winter Newsletter. It is many years since the Club has had a Meet in the Dolomites. The mountain walking, rock climbing and scenic views should appeal to all, there are even snow and ice peaks a short drive away in the Ortler Alps. I hope to see lots of you at the Meet. The Alpine Reunion Meet in early November was attended by a selection of members who were on the walk in and both the Hotel and camping meets, as well as members who were elsewhere in the world. There was snow on the high hills. The weather was mixed with low cloud, high winds and the odd shower but this didn’t deter anybody. We had cyclists on the mountains and on the roads as well as mountain walkers. All the recent rain meant that many areas were boggier than usual at this time of year. A large group set off up Striding Edge and onto the summit, we returned to the Hut via Fairfield and St Sunday Crag (see photos). A late afternoon pre arranged visit to the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Centre was enjoyed by eight members. The evening slide show was preceded by the annual fireworks display. Slides were shown of the Alps, Canadian Rockies and the Dolomites. The latter slides helped to whet the appetite for next years Alpine Meet. The club web site has taken another step forward with a prototype format being presented to the committee. The committee gave the right response and plans are now set for putting the web site together and launching it on the internet. Dont forget Ken Baldry's a web site for his climbing exploits with story and pictures. The site is very interesting and fun to read, you can see it at http://www.art-science.com/Ken/Alpine I have just been sent details of a web site that gives news about Switzerland as well as providing links to other web sites concerning Switzerland. The web site is http://www.swissinfo.org More news in the New Year. |
